Eve Arnold – Bio

Eve Arnold was born in 1912 to Russian parents who had immigrated to America. She began photographing in 1946 at a time when few women were working in the field and became a full Magnum member a decade later. Arnold is perhaps best known for her intimate portraits of actress Marilyn Monroe on the set of Monroe's last film The Misfits (1961). She had, however, taken many iconic photos of Monroe from as early as 1951 at a time when the actress was first establishing her celebrity status, meaning their relationship was built on trust and proved mutually beneficial. Arnold has produced portraits of numerous other VIPs including Marlene Dietrich, Paul Newman, Queen Elizabeth II and Malcolm X. She has received many honours and awards including Order of the British Empire in 2003 and has had 12 books published.
