Going Professional: Ricky Maynard will be discussing professional practice,
with a focus on documentary photography Saturday 27 June 2.30pm
The largest survey show to date of Ricky Maynard's work, curated by Keith
Munro, MCA, has been touring throughout the Pacific region since first opening
in the Australian Embassy, Paris during the Photoquai Biennale 2007. Featuring
work from 6 photographic series including The Moonbird People (1985-88),
Returning to Places that Name Us (2000) and his most recent work Portrait of a
Distant Land (2005) this exhibition reflects the breadth of Maynard's
practice from portraiture, to social documentary and landscape photography.

LITTORAL DRIFT: RICKY MAYNARD
University Technology Sydney Gallery

This group exhibition draws together the work of 6 artists who are exploring
representation of place, in particular focusing on the land and seascapes of
shores and rivers. A number of Ricky Maynard's Portrait of a Distant Land
series are featured in this show, they document sites in Tasmania that hold
cultural and historical significance for his people.

BITE ME: CROFT & RILEY

Being held as part of Reconciliation Week, this exhibition featuring recent
additions to the Flinders University Art Museum Collection includes works by
Brenda L Croft and Michael Riley. Other artists included in the show are
Jonathan Jones, Destiny Deacon and Leah King Smith.

EUROPEAN RESIDENCIES: HICKS
2009 - 2010
Having won the 2008 ABN AMRO Emerging Artist Award which included a round the
world ticket and residency, Petrina Hicks is undertaking a series of artist
residencies in Germany and The Netherlands. Hicks is scheduled for a solo
exhibition at Stills gallery in 2010 that will feature work she creates during
this period in Europe.

THE MORE YOU IGNORE ME THE CLOSER I GET

Video works, Mutatis Mutandis and Uncanny Others by Dorota Mytych are featured
in this program of 9 exhibitions, which considers how contemporary
screen-based practices reflect and explore the emotional depths of the human
condition. Mytych, whose imagery is created with slowly disappearing tea
leafs, exhibited 3 video works entitled Tea Leaf Reading at Stills in February
this year.

Robyn Stacey is exhibiting Leidenmaster II & Entomology, in this exhibition
examining the aesthetic influence of museological conventions on contemporary
art. Stacey works closely with historic collections, surfacing artefacts and
specimens in compositions that ring true to their original context and breath
life into their subjects.

A CHILD'S EYES: VAN SOWERWINE

This solo exhibition of Van Sowerwine's work encompasses her interdisciplinary
practice featuring video, photography, sound and interactive installation.
Creating young, seemingly innocent, animated subjects her works explores how
childhood behaviour and experience blur the distinction between the real and
imaginary.
