MY FAVOURITE AUSTRALIAN

National Portrait Gallery
4 December 2008 - 1 March 2009

Currently on exhibition at the recently opened new National Portrait Gallery are a series of video portraits commissioned by the ABC including three by Merilyn Fairskye. In early 2008 the ABC called on the Australian people to vote on their favorite Australians, from which twenty 'unsung heroes' were selected. The subjects of Fairskye's video portraits are Sir William Deane, Dian Wellfare (deceased human rights activist) and Ruth Lewis (koala and kangaroo rescuer and activist).

IN CAPTIVITY

Dubbo Regional Gallery
8 November 2008 - 29 March 2009

A selection of Beverley Veasey's 2008 series Habitats is featured in the exhibition In Captivity that focuses on the theme 'the animal in art'. Unlike Veasey's previous Natural History series that removed animals from their caged surroundings into surreal empty spaces, Habitats instead captures lifeless man-made enclosures. Dubbo Regional Gallery acquired a number of these works for its permanent collection.
