George Schwarz - Recuerdos
Exhibition: 24 April to 25 May 25, 2002
George Schwarz is one of the few artists who continues to use the exacting method of photomontage - cutting and pasting images together by hand - in preference to using a computer. His images comprise elements representing recollections (recuerdos) mixed with the presence of dreams and of the everyday. In bringing these symbolic fragments together Schwarz asks the viewer to create new meanings and associations. The gothic, the prosaic and the sublime are all drawn upon in Schwarz's Recuerdos to create these powerful works.
