Jon Rhodes - Traces

Exhibition: 24 April to 25 May 25, 2002

Jon Rhodes

The latest body of work by Jon Rhodes, Traces, approaches his subject, a woman, with the same care and consideration he used in his wonderful body of work, Whichaway? (shown at Stills in 1998). In Whichaway? Rhodes documented life in an Aboriginal community at Kiwirrkura in the Gibson Desert. His carefully composed and choreographed photographic sequences bought to life with humour, affection and respect the lives of the Pintupi people and their close relationship to the land. In Traces Rhodes once again uses sequences of exquisitely composed and realised images, this time to create an intimate portrait of a woman. Rather than attempting to depict a decisive moment, Rhodes weaves a story with both images and words.
