Maylei Hunt - ...the space in between
Exhibition: 11 September to 12 October, 2002
...the space in between is a series of black & white photographic fragments hung in sparse groupings on the gallery wall. Arranged with no linear logic, these works are like single sentences from a longer story. Hunt has captured these moments as she goes about her daily life, always with camera in hand. We feel a sense of time rushing on before and after the moment of the photograph, stopped only for a split second between waves...between dreams...between love. Hunt explores the surrealist ideal of blurring the line between art & life. Her images are an affirmation of both herself and her subject "being there" in a particular time and place. To her, these momentary seconds are felt like truths. They remind one to be present in the moment.
